Sights in the Black Forest

Alpirsbach – 25 minutes away by car, is famous for the Alpirsbach brewery and the Alpirsbach monastery, which can be visited. There are artifacts dating back to the 1100s that will amaze you.

Lake Constance with its crystal-clear and clean water, also an hour’s drive away, is not only ideal for swimming in summer, but also for strolling along the shore, in the countless beautiful little towns or for a shopping spree. Cross the border by boat and visit the Swiss side of Constance, Friedrichshafen or Überlingen.

Freiburg – 1 hour’s drive away, is the southernmost major city before the Swiss border. Freiburg Minster is a feast for the eyes, the city center with its numerous pedestrian zones invites you to stroll and enjoy a drink. The student city is widely known, not least because of the Freiburg Schlossbergbahn, which leads up to the Schlossberg. From there, you have a panoramic view and walk up the castle hill from Burghalden Castle, which was built there by the Zähringer family in 1091.

Gutach – the origin of the Bollenhut, is about 25 minutes away from the Hotel Basler Hof. Here you will also find an informative open-air museum “die Vogtsbauernhöfe”, which introduces you to the history of the Black Forest.

Gengenbach, about 45 minutes away by car, is home to Germany’s largest Advent calendar and is very popular in the summer months due to its many half-timbered houses and vineyards.

The “Wenzel” mine takes you underground in about 2 hours and teaches you about silver mining. Oberwolfach also has a wolf and bear park, which shows the history of the once native predators. The glassblowing workshop “Dorotehenhütte” shows modern and traditional glassblowing skills, has a year-round Christmas village and lets you blow your own vase to take home.

Hornberg – also known for the Hornberg shooting, is located directly next to Lauterbach and still offers a castle, wild and romantic nature and well-known industries such as: Duravit

Rottweil – our district town and the oldest town in Baden – Württemberg can be reached in 20 minutes by car. It is an old Roman town and shows the history of these bygone days in ruins and the Dominican Museum.

The huge ruins of Singen/Hohentwiehl, around 50 minutes away, captivate visitors with their legendary stories. A walk through the still existing walls promises not only history but also a large portion of grace and indescribability.

Sigmaringen Castle, located 1 hour’s drive up on the Sigmaringen hill, enchants visitors. with its mighty impressiveness from times gone by.

Strasbourg – a jump to France in about 1 hour’s drive takes you into romantic Alsatian culture. Strasbourg describes itself as the vibrant capital of Europe and impresses with the Strasbourg Cathedral and the market square in front of it, which is said to be one of the largest in Europe.

Schramberg, about 10 minutes by car from the Hotel Basler Hof, is known worldwide for – “Junghans – The German Watch”. Since time immemorial, the south of Germany and with it the Black Forest has been a region of inventors and tinkerers. The watch company is an example of luxury and durability. In addition to Junghans watches, Schramberg offers countless shopping opportunities, a beautiful town park and a museum area that is second to none – the Erfinderzeiten and the Steim automobile collection.

The Titisee, the Schluchsee, the Feldberg, the tinkerer and shopping city Stuttgart, Donaueschingen with the Donau Ursprung, Freudenstadt with the largest German market place, the beautiful, blooming Kinzigtal, the Kaiserstuhl with its vineyards, Offenburg and and and are all destinations which you can reach in 20 to 60 minutes by car.

The Triberg waterfalls – the highest waterfalls in Germany – are around 20 minutes away by car and promise a beautiful natural landscape with spectacles that have rarely been seen before. In addition to the charming little town of Triberg with its Black Forest customs, traditional costumes and culture, Triberg is located on one of the most beautiful mountain railroads in Europe, the Black Forest Railway, and is the center of cuckoo clocks.

Wolfach / Oberwolfach – 15 minutes away by car, today has a visitor mine which dates back to around 1300.
